Working with Idiots Can Kill You

I saw this article in my colleague’s workplace. Funny and true.

WORKING WITH IDIOTS CAN KILL YOU

STOCKHOLM — Idiots in the office are just as hazardous to your health as cigarettes, caffeine or greasy food, an eye-opening new study reveals. In fact, those dopes can kill you!

Stress is one of the top causes of heart attacks — and working with stupid people on a daily basis is one of the deadliest forms of stress, according to researchers at Sweden’s Lindbergh University Medical Center.

The author of the study, Dr. Dagmar Andersson, says her team studied 500 heart attack patients, and were puzzled to find 62 percent had relatively few of the physical risk factors commonly blamed for heart attacks.

“Then we questioned them about lifestyle habits, and almost all of these low-risk patients told us they worked with people so stupid they can barely find their way from the parking lot to their office. And their heart attack came less than 12 hours after having a major confrontation with one of these oafs.

“One woman had to be rushed to the hospital after her assistant shredded important company tax documents instead of copying them. A man told us he collapsed right at his desk because the woman at the next cubicle kept asking him for correction fluid — for her computer monitor.

“You can cut back on smoking or improve your diet,” Dr. Andersson says, “but most people have very poor coping skills when it comes to stupidity — they feel there’s nothing they can do about it, so they just internalize their frustration until they finally explode.”

Stupid co-workers can also double or triple someone’s work load, she explains. “Many of our subjects feel sorry for the drooling idiots they work with, so they try to cover for them by fixing their mistakes. One poor woman spent a week rebuilding client records because a clerk put them all in the ‘recycle bin’ of her computer and then emptied it — she thought it meant the records would be recycled and used again.”

Occupational Health and Safety is Important

I have noticed that many of my co-workers have been absent in the office this last few days. Sick? Stressed? I think so. They have been concentrating too much at work that they forgot to give some concerns on their health. I have read that companies are having problems in sustaining talented workers, also include the stress that the remaining workers experience in the workplace. Many workers claim that stress has a big impact on them, also to the economy and enterprises, as this condition continues to rise. Nowadays, many people who tend to be workaholics increases. Some suffer mental illnesses while others suffer from depression. I couldn’t believe that many people prefer to work too much that they forget their health and safety. Yes, they have the riches that they want but they couldn’t bring those money to their deaths. In a workplace where workaholism appears, everyone is fighting or even dying to work to be paid with the high salary they are asking for.

A worker is very important in one’s workplace so the companies should learn from their mistakes and be responsible to their workers. I’ve been working for two years in a company and I also witness my co-workers difficulties. Some concentrates on overwork affecting their productivity at work, family relationship and personal health. Some of them ended up resigning under workplace health and safety guidelines. I’ve been working so hard all day too but sometimes I take vacation leave to relax a bit. In all these, I believe that employers should ensure the health and safety of all workers by offering risk management in the workplace. It is their obligation to the workers. Be it emotionally, mentally or physically. They should take it seriously or suffer the penalties.

The said issues are part of the occupational health and safety of the workers. What is occupational health and safety? It is an important area which concerns the health, protection, safety and welfare of people employed in a company. If employers are having problems in managing their business, they can outsource firms which specializes with occupational health and safety, risk and workers compensation. These firms can do the management of the business for them. In this case, they can concentrate with the goals of their business and ensure that everything will be in the right place.

Txt Quotes, Txt Jokes

I’m still not feeling well since last Monday. I didn’t have a fever either. Dehydrated? Influenza? I just don’t know what’s wrong with me. My office mate joked on me and said, “baka kinukulam ka…” Kulam pa! Possible! Hahaha!

I couldn’t live without my cell phone because it’s my way of communicating to others but I’m not really into texting. I’m more addicted with other things like blogs and websites that I’m always visiting everyday. I’m not like others who love passing quotes or jokes to all their phone contacts but I love receiving them. Since high school, I’ve been collecting quotes (especially love qoutes) and writing it in a small notebook. I’ve posted some of my favorite love quotes here and in my other blogs (read my Love Talks blog entry) also. I was amazed when one of the authors of the quote left a comment confirming that he wrote it:

“A friend’s love says: “If you ever need anything, I’ll be there.” True love says: “You’ll never need anything, I’ll be there.”Jimi Hollemans

I also received a text joke from an office mate the other night and I couldn’t stop laughing:

Outing ng isang barkada…

Girl1: (Pababa ng pool…)

Girl2: Hoy girl, sigurado ko lulutang ka!

Girl1: Bakit naman? Kasi mataba ako?

Girl2: Hinde…kasi PLASTIK ka!

Wahaha, away na ‘to!

I received another text quote from an office mate tonight. I really love it that I posted it in my Friendster shoutout! I would like to share it here:

“Not all people that’s good to you are true to you as well. So learn to weigh things, be vigilant enough to secure what’s yours. Provide boundary to your conversations. Youu’ll never know when a pretending good person turns into a deceitful asshole.”

Interesting quote right?

HR Memo

To all Employees:

Effective May 2008

Dress Code

1. It is advised that you come to work dressed according to your salary. If we see you wearing Prada shoes and carrying a Gucci bag, we assume you are doing well financially and therefore do not need a pay raise.

2. If you dress poorly, you need to learn to manage your money better, so that you may buy nicer clothes, and therefore you do not need a pay raise.

3. If you dress just right, you are right where you need to be and therefore you do not need a pay raise.

Sick Days

We will no longer accept a doctor’s certificate as proof of sickness. If you are able to go to the doctor, you are able to come to work.

Holiday Days

Each employee will receive 104 personal days a year. They are called Saturday & Sunday.

Compassionate Leave

This is no excuse for missing work. There is nothing you can do for dead friends, relatives or co-workers. Every effort should be made to have non-employees attend to the arrangements. In rare cases where employee involvement is necessary, the funeral should be scheduled in the late afternoon. We will be glad to allow you to work through your lunch hour and subsequently leave one hour early.

Toilet Use

1. Entirely too much time is being spent in the toilet. There is now a strict three-minute time limit in the cubicles.

2. At the end of three minutes, an alarm will sound, the toilet paper roll will retract, the cubicle door will open, and your picture will be taken.

3. After your second offence, your picture will be posted on the company notice board under the “Chronic Offenders” category.

4. Anyone caught smiling in the picture will be sanctioned under the company’s mental health policy.

Lunch Break

1. Skinny people get 30 minutes for lunch, as they need to eat more so that they can look healthy.

2. Normal size people get 15 minutes for lunch to get a balanced meal to maintain their average figure.

3. Chubby people get 5 minutes for lunch, because that’s all the time needed to drink a Slim-Fast.

Thank you for your loyalty to our company. Remember we are an employer of choice and we are here to provide a positive employment experience.

Therefore, all questions, comments, concerns, complaints, frustrations, irritations, aggravations, insinuations, allegations, accusations, contemplations, consternation and input should be directed elsewhere.
